REVIEW: Star Trek (2009)

My latest Netflix'd movie was the 2009 installment of Star Trek.  I wouldn't classify myself as a Trekkie, and although I'm familiar with the Star Trek series, most of my knowledge of Star Trek comes from the movies with Bill Shatner, and from The Simpsons references.

One thing I really liked about this movie is that it is not a remake.  What the creators did in fact was create an alternate timeline of events the "new class" differs from the original stars, and at certain points actually overlap.

Deadspin Copying My Ideas

Well, they at least used the same picture in their post as I used in mine.  Except my post is from Feb. 21, 2010 at 8:07pm, and Deadspin's is Feb. 22, 2010 at 3:45pm.  BAM!

Lindsay Vonn: Hot, For Real?

Listen, I'm going to go ahead and put it out there.  I'm not such a fan of Lindsay Vonn's appearance.  I just don't get it.  She looks like a baby-eater.  I mean, look at that mouth and those eyes.  She looks like she's about to eat babies.

REVIEW: Inglourious Basterds

I don't go to the movies anymore.  Like, at all.  I just don't think it's worth it most of the time, and although I enjoy certain movies more in the theater, I find that the good movies are still good on the smaller screen, and the shitty ones still suck.  If it's a superhero movie, chances are I'm seeing it at the midnight showing when it first opens, but that's a different story.

I just Netflix'd Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, and unfortunately for me, I had heard great things about this movie.  I don't like hearing good things about movies that I want to be good because then the expectations are high, and chances are that the movie will not be able to live up to what it's been built up to be.

Did the Basterds live up to what I was expecting?

Taliban Top Military Commander, Baradar caught in Joint-Op

Click here to see FOX News spin on it.

I don't know about you guys, but when my bosses are MIA or out of the office for a bit, I'm about 900% more efficient with my work.  Well done U.S. and Pakistani forces.  Way to go.  You just made the Taliban 900% more efficient.  Good freaking job.

SUPER BOWL: Party Recap & Oh Yeah, Some Teams Played, Didn't They...

So my buddy Kegs'n'Eggs decides to invite about 20 people over for the Super Bowl, then he decides he's going to go down to D.C. to watch his Hoyas beat the #2 team in the nation during a snowstorm that shut down most of the East Coast south of North Jersey.

I get an email from Kegs'n'Eggs on Sunday at about noon, "On the train back from two feet of snow in DC and GTown smacking Villanova", so I'm thinking, oh, how nice for this lovely Georgetown fellow to provide us  a place to watch the game that is now going to be overcapacity AND under-prepared.  I walk into Kegs'n'Eggs to completely expect a disappointment.  Dude is making Sliders, and Mac'n'Kev is already there.  Expect a disappointment?  Shame on the BuDaMan.  Best-Super Bowl-Ever (save for SB XLII, but that goes without saying).

Super Bowl BuDa Pick'Em

The line is Colts -5.  The BuDaMan is rooting for the older brother of Eli Manning to go get him some.  Simply for being Eli's older brother, Peyton deserves to do well.

See my other article here.  I've gone against the Saints all year, and it hasn't gone very well as you can see.  Will I go WITH the "Who Dat?" clan?

REVIEW: Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360)

The image to the right is the short list of voice actors in the game Mass Effect 2.  Not too shabby.  Any game with The Arbiter as a voice actor sounds pretty awesome to me.  But the people voicing the characters isn't what makes a game, especially when the game in question is a sequel to one of the better RPGs of the decade.

My opinion of the original Mass Effect is that it was a good game, but the plot was a little too overcooked.  There is a renegade alien who switches sides from The Alliance to the enemy, and is manipulated by an ancient race of sentient giant machines, The Reapers, to make an attempt to destroy all of organic life in the galaxy.  That is as brief as I can possibly be.  Mass Effect's gameplay is notable because it is really the first RPG that involves actual combat action, instead of "dice throw"-like fights.  ME2 keeps up with a lot of the good and makes attempts to replace some of the bad.

College Basketball is Good

I'm a Syracuse man, but I watch as much College Basketball as I can, especially Big East basketball.  Today, the 'Cuse isn't playing, but we have a 12 noon matchup of two Top 10 teams out of the Big East.  #2 Villanova at #8 Georgetown.

The energy level of a college basketball game can't be matched by an NBA game, I truly believe that.  Right now the score with 6:47 left in the 2nd Half is Georgetown 78, 'Nova 66.  The announcers are saying that only about 2/3 of the crowd showed up today because of the blizzard in D.C., but there is still a very lively crowd in D.C., and they seem to be helping Georgetown to make today 'Nova's first Big East Loss.

The Original Jersey Shore

The Jersey Shore is far from original.  In honor of tomorrow's Jersey Shore marathon leading up to the most Super game all year, I bring to you the predecessor of the Jersey Shore, MTV's TruLife, I Have A Summer Share.  Please note, this came out in 2003, and it took 6 years for MTV to realize that would have been even more awesome if it was a full season, and loaded one house up with a few "Tommy's", and a few more "Michelle's".

YES!  Go Tommy!

REVIEW: The Harry Potter Series

This past summer I began and finished reading the Harry Potter books, and yes, I'm 12 years old (I wish).  Here is my review of my Harry Potter experience.

In 2002/2003 I saw Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on DVD with the BuDaBro, and I really enjoyed myself.  Kegs'n'Eggs was the first person who said that the Harry Potter books were very good and that he enjoyed them, and I told him he was ridiculous.  When I saw the DVD of the first movie, I never looked back.  I didn't read any of the books until AFTER I had seen through about 4 and a half movies, so in some way my ideas were skewed while reading the books.

Were the Harry Potter books worth the craze?  Abso-freakin-lutely.

Back to the Fifties

Every news outlet is referring to New York Jets coach Rex Ryan's "bird" as an "obscene gesture".  I'm sorry, what the fuck is the big deal, and why can't we refer to it as "THE FINGER".  Obscene?!  Seriously?  Television can say "ASS", but has to bleep out the entire word of "ASSHOLE"?!  What the fuck man.

Now when people say "FUCK" on some shows they have to blur their mouth.  Listen, if your children are watching the Tyra Banks Show unattended at 4pm, you've got some bigger issues.  Put on that Wizards of Waverly Place chilluns'!

Not a Fan of Receipts

First of all, the BuDaMan isn't a fan of things that can be tracked by "THE Man".  I like to live life on the edge, off the grid, and a minute-to-minute who-knows-what-will-happen-next kind of attitude*.

Second of all, how the fuck are you supposed to retain receipts for up to seven years if these things are probably the most perishable tree-product on the face of the earth?!
