Okay, maybe that was a little insensitive. Whatever. My only question is whether the WWE does something like they did for Owen Hart (completely ignore it and then have a belated tribute show), or do what they did for Chris Benoit (jump the gun to avoid the Owen Hart criticism before finding out Benoit roid raged his family to death in a murder-suicide). Either way, the gay issue for Chris Kanyon is likely to be too prominent in whatever story is out there.
Here is what Barry from Deadspin wrote.
Here is what the Bells Palsy man himself, Jim Ross, wrote.
I'll first go off on a gay tangent, before anything else. Wouldn't the best job for a gay man be a professional wrestler? Lubed beefcakes walking around all over the place (no 'mo), shower scenes (no 'mo), writhing around on the floor with dudes outfitted with high leather boots and colorful tighty-whitey's (no 'mo, not that there's anything wrong with that). I would venture a guess at "YES". "Hey, Perry Saturn, come shaved and oil back back? Thanks bro."
Now, nothing to do with Kanyon. Seriously, does anyone remember the Owen Hart fiasco? How about the Chris Benoit fiasco? Owen Hart died during a "Live" filming of Monday Night RAW for the then WWF, and instead of doing anything that night, the WWF decided they would allow the filming to continue on top of a blood stained ring. Owen Hart was performing as the Blue Blazer this night, and instead of being lowered from the ring slowly and then disgracefully dropping to the ring a few feet above the mat, he fell about 70 feet to land on the top (steel) rope about a foot from the turnbuckle. According to wrestling-lore, he died in the arms of Jerry the King Lawler, who continued to announce for the show. Brief mention of an incident, and then continuing. The following week an impromptu tribute show was scheduled, but even that couldn't save the WWF from settling with the Hart family for over $18 million. The Benoit fiasco goes as follows. Benoit and his family are found brutally murdered in their home, I believe on a Sunday night. Because on the following Monday, the then WWE (probably to try to erase any claims of insensitivity from the Owen Hart incident) ran tons of Chris Benoit clips and had a tribute night of their own. I distinctly remember crying wrestlers, and personal interviews always ending with "Chris, we'll miss you buddy". Whoops. Turns out Benoit went psycho, bound his wife and then strangled her, then supposedly drugged his song, dragged him to another part of the house, strangled him, and then committed suicide. The WWE quickly pretended that the incident never happened, or that they ran a 3-hour tribute show for him before all the details were in. Oh, also, it's likely that he went on the rampage as a result of brain damage (mixed with roid-rage levels of testosterone and other drugs) caused by trauma (i.e., wrestling).
The Golden Age of Wrestling is long gone. I argue that it jumped the shark when WCW was bought out by the WWF. I always liked the WWF more than the WCW, but you need legit competition, and WCW was legit competition. They started from the aging stars jumping WWF ship, but they cultivated their own young stars, and hold the two greatest wrestling games to their name: World Tour, and Revenge. I'm humming the Main Menu jam from Revenge right now. Awesome.
That's all. Real quick, the grossest thing I've ever seen with the WWF was when Mark Henry impregnated Mae Young, and she eventually gave birth to a hand. I guess I'm a prude, but I still don't quite understand that joke at all.
