There is the age old argument that the Lions shouldn't play on Turkey Day because the NFL should put forth their best for the holiday. Should they remove the Lions as a default team to host the Turkey Bowls?
If the Lions can't put their best team on the field (which includes the Megatron Calvin Johnson (CalJohn), and their 1st Overall Draft Pick in Matthew Stafford), then yes, we need to get rid of them. The Lions are barely watchable as is, and without Stafford and Calvin, honestly, why am I supposed to care?
The link to the article above states that the Lions "hardly have anything to play for", but in my opinion they should be putting their best foot forward. I will be furious if I have to watch Dante Culpepper throw to Bryant Johnson and Dennis Northcutt on the best eating day on the North American Continent. Seriously, it will suck. This game will be the Lions Super Bowl - the coaching staff should not hold back a single player if they can play. The next time they'll be on a national stage (unless they somehow "get good") is next Thanksgiving, and forcing us to watch a game without Stafford and CalJohn is unacceptable.
Hollywood Storyline: Injured rookie quarterback fights through the pain to play a nationally televised game and leads his team to a hard fought victory.
Movie of the Week Storyline: Injured young wide receiver puts all bad blood behind him, plays with one good arm and one good leg and sets a record for receptions on Thanksgiving.
I'm not saying something like that is GOING to happen, but if you don't even put forth the good effort and get this nation on your side, you have no more defense. I'm sorry, but that's it. Throw your A squad out there this Thursday, put on a show, and start to get this nation back on your side. We don't WANT to hate you, Detroit Lions. You've just given us no choice. This will be the nail in the coffin you've made for yourselves. This nation loves a comeback story much more than it enjoys the scandals of tragic collapse. Call it being fickle, or call it a higher capability for forgiveness if you will, who cares, but you can get back on track starting with Thanksgiving Day 2009.
And if that doesn't work for you, why not do it for all of Detroit and it's economy. It needs some help. Be their economic hero (not really, but why not give it a college try...)
Seriously, the Detroit Lions get blacked out locally, and for the day they are guaranteed a nationally televised audience they are probably going to start Dante Culpepper instead of their #1 Draft Pick. They deserve all the ribbing they receive for their terrible organization. They are really indefensible at this point. LAST STRAW!
