NFL Playoffs: Vikings Lose, Colts-Saints Preview

So I get into work today and my buddy DaMayo sends me an email that says the following:

Where is my Monday Morning BudAnalysis?!!!

If you want to see my response, you are going to have to make the jump!
Here's what the BuDaMan had to say:

Bud-Analysis.  Don’t you mean BuDa-nalysis?!  Well, I did post a solid amount to the blog yesterday, so enjoy it if you can, including a quick hit right after the Jets-Colts.

As far as the Vikings-Saints go, I think the Saints were luckier than they’ve ever been.  In a battle where Purple Jesus battled the Saints, I never expected the Purple Jesus to lose, honestly.  But seriously, 3 ADP fumbles, a 12-man on the field call, it was absurd.  How many fumble recoveries did they have?  AND they needed a 44 year FG in OT to win the game (NFC Championship) at home.

I submit that they were more lucky than good.  That said, it’s pretty interesting that the two teams who were undefeated the longest, and #1 in their respective conferences, are now going to meet in South Florida (why don’t they just say Miami?).  Quickbreakdown:

QB: two of the best in the NFL, should be good
RB: Saints – I don’t trust Addai, and D.Brown is good but beyond these two it’s Mike Hart, and that trio isn’t half as good as Pierre Thomas by himself
WR: Push? On paper the Saints have one of the best aerial attacks.  My personal preference is that the Colts are better, but the argument can go both ways.  Collie, Garcon, Clark, Wayne (in order of worst to best) that’s a pretty good crew capable of anything.  Clark over Shockey.  Wayne over Colston, Garcon = Meachem, and Collie over Devery.
Defense: Colts?  Saints?  Neither team is thought of for their defense capabilities, and the Colts gave up some big plays to the Jets “potent” offense.  This is a toss up in my eyes, but the Saints have been winning all year long and have been making defensive plays (whether they were gifts or not, the plays were made, and I guess I just can’t keep hating on this D).  I say the edge goes to the Colts because of Mathis and Freeney as elite pass rushers, but their secondary issues may be picked on my Brees and Crew.

PS – I’m probably going to post EXACTLY this email into the blog.  Count it.

Told you I'd do it.  Also, immediately following Brett Favre's interception at the end of regulation by buddy Kegs'n'Eggs sent all of us the following text message (grammar and punctuation preserved):

Hey, at least he's having fun out there!  Vikings fans you've just been GUNSLUNG

So in response to my email above I sent this follow up email:

Oh, real quick – the Favre hit where he got pummeled from the top and submarined from the back, that would have been a penalty if it was Tom Brady.  The Vikings did get Gunslung (excellent text Pat), BUT the dude is 40 years old and he kept getting up after some narshty hits.  Credit where credit is due…

I think we do need to give Favre a little credit.  I'm 90% sure that I would die if I were hit the way he gets hit, and I'm only a quarter-of-a-century old.  (My dad said a similar thing to me back in the day when it was Tyson-Holyfield II)  Anyways, I'm not really interested in the Pro Bowl, but I will probably watch it, and I am rooting for the Colts.  Oddly enough, I'm rooting for the favorite of a particular game, and I have no vested interest in this team.  This is highly unlike me.  Also, I've been counting out the Saints all year long, and I looked foolish until they lost three in a row, but even that couldn't make me look good.  If I were a betting man, I would bet against me.  I've been wrong about these guys all year long, and like I said above, the Saints have been winning and making plays since Week 1.

I submit that they were more lucky than good this past week, but I haven't been right about the Saints yet.  Am I just a hater providing the Saints some hater-ation?  Those chances are pretty damn good lol.  GO COLTS!

*Interesting Note* - The AFC Championship was supposedly the first time two rookie coaches met each other in a League Championship game.  You probably heard it during the Divisional Playoffs, but the Superdome had never hosted an NFC Championship game until this past weekend.  And you probably also heard that Favre's final pass this year was an interception in the NFC Championship game.  Two years ago his final pass was an interception in the NFC Championship game, except then he played for the Packers, and he threw that against the eventual Super Bowl XLII Championship, the New York Giants.  I don't think I can go against a Manning, but the Faver-mojo might be with Brees and the Saints.
