You've probably already read my Wildcard Weekend breakdown, but it's time to expand the field of thought for a few moments. Who wins this week, who wins next week, and who wins it all? BuDaMan's got you covered.
BuDa's Picks:
Wildcard Weekend Winners:
Bengals OVER Jets
Cowboys OVER Eagles
Ravens OVER Patriots
Packers OVER Cardinals
Divisional Playoff Winners:
Colts OVER Ravens (rooting for Ravens)
Chargers OVER Bengals (rooting for Bengals)
Saints OVER Packers (rooting for Packers)
Vikings OVER Cowboys
League Championship Winners:
Colts OVER Chargers
Vikings OVER Saints
Super Bowl:
Colts OVER Vikings
No surprises here, which tells me I will probably be 99% wrong. But here are my basic thoughts. Saints won't win the Super Bowl, I don't think they'll be able to hang with the big boys. I'm rooting for an Eagles AND Packers win, that way the Packers can destroy the Vikings next week as opposed to in the NFC Championship Game.
I actually surprised myself that I chose the Colts to win it all, but that's more a result of the fact that I hate the Vikings, Saints, and Chargers, and I just can't pick one of the Wild Card teams to win it without seeing how they respond this week.
Of the Wild Card teams, the best are the Packers and the Ravens. They aren't necessarily built to win, but they have the tools to win with the game that they play.
Why I don't think they'll win:
Vikings - Favre is old and the pressure is on him to win. ADP has not traditionally performed well (on an ADP scale) towards the end of the seasons, I don't know if that will carry over to the playoffs. Percy Harvin has sporadic migraine problems, so he may miss time, and the Vikings defense has given up more than 25 points in 3 of the last 5 weeks. When they have given up more than 25 points this season the teams record is 2-4. They'll be playing the best left of Dallas, Philadelphia, Green Bay and the Cardinals which are all feast or famine offenses. I think they might win next week, but they won't win the Super Bowl.
Saints - I just don't like this team. Sean Peyton never knows which running back to use, and yes, I think he doesn't know how to use them. Pierre Thomas is the beast, use him always, sit Mike Bell, don't give Mike Bell the ball on the goal line, and don't be cute and give it to Bush. I would argue Bobby Meachum is their best WR, gets the most receptions and yards (at least it appears that way), but in games where Brees is pressured their production has gone way down. The Vikings will get to Brees if they play him, or the Packers will lockdown the receivers like they've done all year.
Chargers - LDT is washed up, Sproles cannot be the featured back, and Phil Rivers throws like a girl. Vincent Jackson is great, but I hate the guy who throws to him. Also, their Middle Linebacker beats women and is on steroids. I hope they don't win.
Cowboys - Tony Romo is their quarterback, AND he is the holder on place kicks. Does this sound familiar? Roy Williams is not a role player, and they will force passes to him to keep him quiet and he'll drop them or jump too late and cause offensive issues, which will lead to mistakes. You can't make mistakes in the playoffs. Also, their defense is overrated.
Colts - The question mark comes in the form of their running game and whether they can win without Bob Sanders. I think they can. We know their passing attack is masterful, but it's the other cogs of the wheel that comes into question. That line isn't the same.
That's all for now. Jets just tied it up with a 40 yard Shonne Green run. This will be a good one. I love football.
