Big game from the GMeN. In the article referenced, Brandon Jacobs said this:
"It's extra special against Dallas. That's absolutely a team I can't stand. I've been hating Dallas ever since I knew anything about football."
BJake, who is criticized for his lack of reception skills and today took a short pass from Eli Manning 74 yards for a touchdown. Well done sir!
Domenik Hixon took a punt return for a 79 yard touchdown, and when it looked as though he was going to run right into a tackler managed to break loose for a score. Well done sir!
The real story from today is that the Giants won, which keeps them in the hunt for the playoffs, and that the Cowboys lost, and they have one of the toughest schedules in the league for the duration of the season.
It is entirely possible for the Cowboys (who lead the NFC East and are tied with the Philadelphia Eagles at 8-4) to miss the playoffs. The three headed hydra that is the Cowboys running attack managed to put only 45 yards up against the Giants defense. The Cowboys aerial attack was really the only thing that was able to do well, and it was mostly Tony Romo and Jason Witten. Miles Austin managed some serious yardage and a touchdown during junktime.
Although he had only 6 reception, Steve Smith had 13 targets, which is a lot more than the 4 targets to Mario Manningham (for 1 reception). It will be interesting to see how the Giants aerial game is affected over the upcoming weeks, because it's beyond apparent that Eli prefers to go to Smith. Tony Romo had 30 more attempts than Manning, but both Witten and Austin had double digit receptions.
Another story to me is the Giants running game. Ahmad Bradshaw amassed 6.7 yards per carry while Brandon Jacobs managed only 3.0. Jacobs had a rushing touchdown, and obviously a receiving touchdown. The Giants will need both to continue to perform in order for them to be competitive in the weeks to come.
We will see what happens with the Cowboys, but they have a very tough schedule ahead. They host San Diego, then travel to New Orleans, and Washington, and then host Philly - maybe a similar situation as last year.
Now let's see the Giants remaining schedule: Next week they host Philadelphia, then travel to Washington, host Carolina, and travel to Minnesota.
The Giants will try to redeem themselves against the Eagles next week, in the first game they were completely outplayed. This is no guarantee, but the Giants CAN win this game. Smart money is on the Giants winning 2 out of their final 4 games, but if they can manage to win 3 or more there is probably a legitimate chance of making the playoffs.
The Giants are currently 7-5, with the current Wild Card spots filled by Philadelphia (8-4) and Green Bay (7-4). Green Bay plays Baltimore tomorrow night, and Baltimore is the better team, but they'll still have to play. The Giants and Packers could be tied for the final Wild Card spot by the end of Week 13. We'll see how this turns out.
