According to certain sources, the umpiring crew to handle the World Series has been changed up. An official announcement has not yet been made, but Major League Baseball seems to want a very experienced crew to cover the World Series in light of recent events.

This seems like a big jerkoff to me. (As I am writing this, Johnny Damon was "thrown out" at 1st Base) Changing umpires to a new crew will only do so much. The real solution is to have a crew of three (3) umpires in a booth off the field to reverse blatantly incorrect calls. Calls like Joe Mauer's fly ball down the right field line in the ALDS, or any of the incorrect calls made in Game 4 of the ALCS.
You can see my official feelings on umpires and replay here, but to summarize, I think 90% of the time the umpires get the call correct on the field. My rate of accuracy would probably be about 10%. I was home plate umpire a few times in High School for a Little League - let me tell you, it's slightly more than intense when a parent gets up on the fence screaming at you because his kid was rung up on a questionable call - I don't want to have to be the guy who fucks up a playoff call.
There aren't cameras to slow down every angle of play to a make a split second equal a few minutes of film, and it's honestly amazing what they can do. They are professionals deserving of their role and compensation. The argument for replay is one that stresses the diminishing factor the umpires (and their union) would have on the game.
Like Ed Reed said a few weeks ago, we have the technology to get these calls 100% correct, and we (and the professional sport of Major League Baseball) are doing ourselves a disservice to not take that opportunity, and exploit technology for all of it's advantages.
FINAL THOUGHT: Replay should never be able to overrule balls and strikes - too soon.
UPDATED: Major League Baseball don't have the only crews affected by missed play calling. The SEC seems to have a crew that likes to affect the outcome of close games near the close with "Personal Fouls" that have come out of thin air. This crew is suspended for their October 31, 2009 game.
