After a week of speculation, rumors, and creepy handwritten messages from fugley 22 year old production assistants, Steve Phillips has once again been fired from a job.
Personally, I'm just really excited that we don't have to listen to this moron say "I'm the guy who found David Wright", because no one cares. No one cared then, no one cares now. Steve, if you didn't say it every single time you were on the air, I wouldn't mind so much. But it's ALL the time man! If you brought up the Mo Vaughn deal the same amount as the David Wright stuff, I would also give you a bit more credit for owning up to how good (bad) you were as a General Manager.
You can read the article here.
It's kind of weird how ESPN.com refers to ESPN (the TV company) as some sort of different entity, owned by someone else. Right? Check out the first few lines. This is from the post timestamped at 10:59PM on October 25, 2009, who knows if they'll update it or not:
Baseball analyst Steve Phillips was fired by ESPN on Sunday night less than a week after the former Mets general manager admitted having an affair with a production assistant at the cable network.
A representative for Phillips also announced the former Mets general manager was entering a treatment facility "to address his personal issues."
Phillips' acknowledged Wednesday he had a relationship with 22-year-old Brooke Hundley.
"Steve Phillips is no longer working for ESPN," network spokesman Josh Krulewitz said in a statement. "His ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged, and it became evident it was time to part ways."
Why couldn't the just say "...fired by us...", like, I know what website I'm on pal. Apparently by saying to themselves that he no longer works for ESPN, it makes it sound better and more justified. That's like me interviewing myself and posting on the BuDa-BLoG that the BuDaMan is happy about the Yankees winning the ALCS, sincerely, BuDaMan. Just kind of stupid if you ask me.
*ALSO* - I know Sunday is kind of a big day in sports, but the Steve Phillips firing on the ESPN homepage is the last link on the "Headlines" portion. It is two below "Sources: La Russa will return, McGwire to coach". Probably don't want to have this as a major headline lol.
Also, he's entering a treatment facility? I'm guessing it's going to be spun as some sort of sex addiction. I've been asked before "Why is a sex addiction such a problem?" It's not such a problem when the husband is just addicted to having sex with his wife - it's in the home. It becomes a problem when a human being is addicted to having sex with filthy coke whores at all hours of the evening and wakes up the children... now do you see the problem? (See David Duchovny)
Here is what Deadspin has to say about Steve Phillips...

And just for shits and giggles, let's see what level of intelligence The Insider can bring to the table?! Oh yes, I plan to "keep checking 'The Insider' as this story unfolds" because your investigative reporting is so in depth - better get back to that story about Jon & Kate Plus 8 and what the kids have been eating for dinner, possibly maybe...
